OUR MISSION
The Krewe comprises almost all 101 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States and the Virgin Islands. During the toughest, most challenging times in American and world history, HBCUs persevered. They continued to produce civil rights leaders, college professors, Olympic athletes, entertainers, U.S. and state Supreme Court justices, renowned scientists, and the first female U.S. Vice President. These historic institutions have long been transmitters of excellence and determination, tirelessly elevating deserving students who aim high and work harder. Our mission is to reinforce the indelible, incomparable legacy of HBCUs, educating tomorrow’s leaders from every rural hamlet and urban city, while providing an exceptional Carnival experience. Through the generous support of partners, we will execute programs that support our students and shape future world leaders.

Who We Are
Krewe of HBCUs, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organization founded in 2024 in New Orleans, LA. For over a year, our movement has been driven by a collective commitment to propel the aspirations and academic dreams of HBCU students into reality. These historic institutions have long been transmitters of excellence and determination, tirelessly elevating deserving students who aim high and work harder. Our purpose extends beyond the now, laying down the foundation which buttresses our future pillars of educational excellence. In collaboration with our dedicated partners, we craft opportunities that support and amplify the strengths of the HBCU community.
We have multiple initiatives focusing on civic leadership; environmental stewardship; personal and community health and wellness; volunteerism; and career readiness—each designed to open doors and create pathways for HBCU students to thrive. Through financial assistance, mentorship, and career exposure, we highlight and enhance the unique opportunities an HBCU education provides, forging a robust network of leaders poised to make an indelible impact on the world.
The Krewe of HBCUs values education and shared humanity above all else. Our singular purpose is to show the world that an HBCU education offers limitless opportunity, global community, and an unwavering responsibility to ensure those hallowed campus grounds are always there to nurture the next generation of world leaders. And there are few more fitting ways to share and celebrate with the world the revered legacy and immeasurable value of our HBCUs than with an extravagant, memorable fête during New Orleans’ Carnival season. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
